Softball Recap: Independence Wins Going Away Against Liberty

Independence made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Liberty, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Falcons put the hurt on the Patriots with a sharp 24-9 victory on Wednesday. The Falcons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by six runs or more this season.

Independence let Daisy Martinez and Maylea Lutu run wild. Martinez went 3-for-5 with eight RBI, three runs, and two doubles, while Lutu got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs and four RBI. That's the most doubles Martinez has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Lyanna Cazares, who scored two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Independence's win bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Liberty, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-7.

Independence will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Patriots: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled on Friday.
