Mountain Valley is 2-8 against Oak Hill since May of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Falcons will be playing in front of their home fans against the Raiders at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Mountain Valley will bounce into Wednesday's contest after beating Madison, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Falcons' pitcher stepped up to hand the Bulldogs a 21-0 shutout on Monday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Falcons considering their one-run performance the game before.
Addison Libby made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Libby was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Maddy Brown was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. Another player making a difference was Kyanah Wing, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Oak Hill was able to grind out a solid victory over Spruce Mountain on Monday, taking the game 9-4.
Like Mountain Valley, Oak Hill also got a great game from a two-way player: Izzy Whitaker. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Whitaker was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carlee Austin, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Emma Dubois was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Mountain Valley now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Oak Hill, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
Mountain Valley suffered a grim 15-2 defeat to Oak Hill when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Falcons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
