If the James Monroe Mavericks were riding high off their 72-38 takedown of the Greenbrier West Cavaliers on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. James Monroe took a 59-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of Oak Hill on Thursday. James Monroe was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Oak Hill apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January.
Several Mavericks players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Maggie Boroski, who scored 20 points along with 8 rebounds and 6 steals. Boroski scored a full 38.5% of James Monroe's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Dunlap, who scored 13 points.
James Monroe's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Oak Hill, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
James Monroe will head out on the road to face off against Floyd County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Oak Hill, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Princeton at 7:00 p.m.
