Basketball Recap: Bishop Diego Takes a Loss

Bishop Diego lost against Santa Ynez back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Bishop Diego Cardinals received a blow as they fell 86-69 to the Santa Ynez Pirates. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Tuesday (57), the Cardinals still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Bishop Diego saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Crew Sjovold went 8 of 17 on his way to 21 points and three steals. What's more, Sjovold also racked up three rebounds, the most he's had since back in December of 2023. Damien Krautmann was another key player, putting up 14 points and six steals.

Jude Pritchard went supernova for Santa Ynez, dropping a double-double on 33 points and ten boards. The matchup was Pritchard's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ikenna Ofiaeli, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten boards.

Bishop Diego now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Santa Ynez, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.

Bishop Diego wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 61-58 victory against Orcutt Academy on the 3rd. As for Santa Ynez, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 51-47 win against Eastside on the 30th.
