6A District 8 recap September 10, 2013
King scaled the state rankings by moving to 257 from 307 this week, the biggest jump in 6A District 8. The Lions were able to make move up by besting Lennard 27-12.
Chamberlain was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from eighth to fourth in the league. Earlier in the week, the Chiefs triumphed over Leto 43-6.
Jefferson's dynamic duo of Deiondre Porter and Chavez Pownell proved tough for Hillsborough to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Porter threw for 249 yards and 2 touchdowns and Pownell had 123 yards receiving. James Wilson helped Jefferson's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 87 yards.
The Dragons' dynamic duo of Porter and Pownell proved to be unstoppable against the Terriers, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Dwayne Lawson was a passing and rushing force as Hillsborough fell to Jefferson. He completed 16 passes for 291 yards and also ran for 124 yards. Lawson's key target this week was Rudy Dawson, who caught 6 passes for 86 yards.
Porter put up the best numbers in passing as Jeremy Earle's team beat Earl Garcia's team.
Pownell was the best receiver in the league this week as the Dragons topped the Terriers.
Shavar Manuel was a key player and the best on defense this week as Blake fell to Armwood. The 6-foot-3 defensive end racked up 4.0 sacks.
Lawson was the best running back in 6A District 8 this week. Kenny Gunn also contributed to the rushing game with 37 yards on the ground.
He went 10-20 with 1 interceptions.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Jefferson takes on Robinson. At the moment, the Dragons are in second, while the Knights are in fifth.
The Falcons lost to Chamberlain 43-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Isiaiah Dorsey caught 1 passes for 41 yards in the defeat.
