The St. Augustine Purple Knights won the last time they faced the Slidell Tigers, and things went their way on Saturday too. St. Augustine came out on top against Slidell by a score of 58-48. Given St. Augustine's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 22nd, while Slidell is ranked 113th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Slidell's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mike Parlow, who scored 17 points along with 5 rebounds. Parlow scored a full 35.4% of Slidell's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jaden Hookfin, who scored 14 points along with 8 rebounds.
The victory makes it two in a row for St. Augustine and bumps their season record up to 9-1. As for Slidell, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Augustine will take on Livingston Collegiate Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Livingston Collegiate Academy comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Slidell, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Northshore at 7:10 p.m. on Monday.
