Basketball Recap: Colleton County Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Da'veon Varner and Amauri Sanders

Colleton County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. The game between them and the Fort Dorchester Patriots didn't end well, with the Colleton County Cougars falling 66-47. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cougars of the 71-66 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.

Colleton County's loss came despite strong showings from Amauri Sanders and Da'Veon Varner. Sanders went 6 for 12 on his way to 17 points and eight rebounds, while Varner posted 18 points and five rebounds. The contest was Varner's sixth in a row with at least ten points.

Leading Fort Dorchester to victory were Maricious Dawson and DeOndre Haynes. Dawson put up 15 points and four steals, while Haynes went 6 of 11 on his way to 17 points and four steals. That's the most steals Dawson has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Maurice Cannon, who had three points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Colleton County's loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Fort Dorchester, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.

Colleton County will head out to face off against Battery Creek at 8:00 p.m. on Monday. Battery Creek knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Colleton County likes a good challenge. As for Fort Dorchester, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, an 86-66 defeat against White Knoll on the 14th.
