The biggest upset of the week belonged to Owensboro, who took down 65th ranked Owensboro, 13-9. Danny Demercurio threw for 158 yards and ran for 63 yards in the win.
Demercurio and Alex Gray provided fans with a highlight when they connected against the Red Devils. The connection went for 64 yards, the longest such play in 4A District 1 this season.
Lone Oak's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Zyaire Hughes threw for 221 and three touchdowns and Morgan Alexander had 100 yards receiving. On the ground D'juan Sherrill chipped in 243 yards. Tyrae Caldwell helped Lone Oak's passing attack out by catching four balls for 79 yards.
Lone Oak's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Purple Flash feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Hughes has thrown for 944 yards and 11 touchdowns this season, while Rasheed Jones has 17 catches for 284 yards. Sherrill leads the league in rushing with 1102 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Lone Oak takes on second place Owensboro. Last week, the Purple Flash bested Calloway County, while Owensboro fell to North Hopkins.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Joe Prince's team takes on Lone Oak. The Red Devils have allowed 85 points this season, while Jack Haskins's team has given up 97. Owensboro allowed 13 points last week as it fell to the Maroons.
The Purple Flash were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from third to first in 4A District 1. Lone Oak defeated the Lakers 54-7 earlier in the week.
