Basketball Recap: Cape Fear Academy's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Pine Lake Prep, Cape Fear Academy was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They rang in the new year with a 57-48 win over the Southeastern Christian Academy Warriors. The victory was some much needed relief for the Hurricanes as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Cape Fear Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Isaiah Gibson, who posted 12 points and eight rebounds. That's the most rebounds Gibson has posted since back in November of 2024. Kareem Anderson was another key player, going 6 of 12 on his way to 13 points.

Southeastern Christian Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Ziyon Smith and Uzziah Marlowe. Smith went 8 of 11 on his way to 19 points and eight rebounds, while Marlowe went 6 of 14 on his way to 20 points. Smith is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games he's played.

The victory got Cape Fear Academy back to even at 9-9. As for Southeastern Christian Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cape Fear Academy will take on Wayne Country Day at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Wayne Country Day's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 12 games. As for Southeastern Christian Academy, they will challenge Conway Christian at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Southeastern Christian Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.9 points per game this season.
