The Los Amigos Lobos will face off against the Estancia Eagles at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. Los Amigos is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
Los Amigos lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Western, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Wednesday's game. The Lobos put the hurt on the Pioneers with a sharp 14-2 victory on Wednesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Lobos needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
Sophia Gutierrez made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off eight hits (and only one walk). Gutierrez was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Azul Pedroza, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Leah Lemusu was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Los Amigos was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. The last time their batting average was this high was back in February of 2024.
Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Estancia's offense. They came up short against Orange on Friday, falling 14-0. The Eagles just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.
Estancia's defeat dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Los Amigos, their win bumped their record up to 9-2.
Estancia's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Los Amigos hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .328. It's a different story for Estancia, though, as they've only averaged .258. Will they be able to contain Los Amigos' hitters?
Everything went Los Amigos' way against Estancia in their previous matchup back in March of 2022, as Los Amigos made off with a 23-6 victory. Do the Lobos have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
