The Wall Eagles had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.6 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They walked away with a 68-59 victory over New Underwood. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Wall's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brodi Sundall, who scored 20 points along with nine rebounds and five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sundall has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Teelan Kjerstad, who scored 18 points along with three steals.
New Underwood lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Eli Kelley, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 16 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Kelley scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Cash Albers, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Wall pushed their record up to 7-2 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points per game. As for New Underwood, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-3.
Wall won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Custer at 4:00 p.m. on January 20th. Custer knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully Wall likes a good challenge. As for New Underwood, they will take on Upton at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Upton presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than New Underwood in their respective states (Upton is ranked 11th in Wyoming, while New Underwood is ranked 94th in South Dakota).
