Beaufort Academy's 19-9 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They had to suffer through a rough 87-26 loss at the hands of May River. While losing is never fun, Beaufort Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 248th, while May River is ranked 86th).
Charleston Collegiate has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 21 points or more this season. They ended the year with a bang, routing Colleton Prep Academy 77-56. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Charleston Collegiate's win on Thursday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Thomas Reed, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten rebounds. The match was Reed's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Grant Morrison was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with eight assists and three steals.
Beaufort Academy's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Charleston Collegiate, their win bumped their record up to 6-4.
Everything came up roses for Beaufort Academy against Charleston Collegiate in their previous matchup back in December of 2021 as the team secured a 77-48 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Beaufort Academy since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
