Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Whiteland Warriors, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They fell just short of the Grizzly Cubs by a score of 45-42. Whiteland has not had much luck with the Grizzly Cubs recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Whiteland lost on Saturday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Sophia Dyer, who scored 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gwen Higdon, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Whiteland struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Franklin Community pulled down ten offensive rebounds.
Franklin Community's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Lauren Klem, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Klem continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Erica Buening, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Whiteland now has a losing record at 12-13. As for Franklin Community, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 18 of their last 19 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 23-3 record this season.
Whiteland does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Franklin Community and the Huskies will face off at 4:00 p.m. on February 10th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
