The Deer Valley Wolverines typically have all the answers at home, but on Friday the Pittsburg Pirates proved too difficult a challenge. They walked away with a 95-82 win over the Wolverines. Given Pittsburg's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 134th, while the Wolverines are ranked 486th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jeremiah Collins was his usual excellent self, scoring 38 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Kayshaun Hunte was another key contributor, scoring 19 points.
Pittsburg is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. As for Deer Valley, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-10.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pittsburg's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th. Freedom is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak. As for Deer Valley, they will head out on the road to take on the Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
