In what's become a running theme this season, the Holy Cross Knights gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. They breezed by John Paul II at home to the tune of 75-40. Given Holy Cross' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 495th, while John Paul II is ranked 1224th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Aaron Garcia, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlos Cirlos, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why John Paul II lost, one person who can't be blamed is Eliseo Garcia. Despite the final result, he scored 22 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Garcia continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Chris Enriquez, who scored eight points.
Holy Cross has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 13-7 record this season. As for John Paul II, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-18.
Holy Cross will head out on the road to challenge Brentwood Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Brentwood Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully Holy Cross likes a good challenge. As for John Paul II, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Texas School for the Deaf at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday.
