Basketball Game Preview: Divine Savior Academy Sharks vs. Scheck Hillel Community School Lions

The Divine Savior Academy Sharks will take on the Scheck Hillel Community School Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Last Thursday, Divine Savior Academy took a blow against Immaculata-La Salle, falling 55-28. While losing is never fun, the Sharks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 517th, while the Royal Lions are ranked 241st).

Despite the defeat, Divine Savior Academy saw an underclassman step up: freshman Claudia Cardenas went 5 for 9 en route to 12 points and five boards. Those 12 points set a new season-high mark for Cardenas.

Even though they lost, Divine Savior Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Scheck Hillel Community School was not able to break out of their rough patch two weeks ago as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They received a blow as they fell 40-21 to David Posnack Jewish Day.

Scheck Hillel Community School's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Divine Savior Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.

Everything came up roses for Divine Savior Academy against Scheck Hillel Community School when the teams last played back in January of 2023, as the team secured a 62-20 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Divine Savior Academy since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
