Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school basketball. The tradition continues to close out the 2024-25 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.

Largo (Upper Marlboro) is the 2024-25 Maryland MaxPreps Player of the Year. A repeat selection, the 6-foot-7 senior forward led the Lions to a 25-3 record and their second consecutive Class 2A state championship.
For the season, Ward averaged 29.8 points, 11.6 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 2.6 blocked shots per game. He shot 67.0 percent from the field and 75.7 percent from the free throw line.
