The Badger Braves are taking a road trip to square off against the Newton Falls Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Badger is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Badger came out on top against Chalker on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive ten-run third inning. The Braves never let the Wildcats get on the board and left with a 13-0 win. The game was the first time the Braves have beaten the Wildcats on their field since May 13, 2021.
Tyler McWilliams was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lewis Flowers, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Jack Harnett, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Newton Falls came tearing into Tuesday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Warriors by a score of 7-4.
Zayne Shelton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. Newton Falls is 3-1 when Shelton allows one or fewer earned runs, but 3-6 otherwise.
At the plate, LeLand Vargo was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. Jaden Stimpert also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Newton Falls hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive matchups.
Badger's record now sits at 8-3. As for Newton Falls, their record is now 6-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Badger has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Newton Falls struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
