Joseph Miller and Reynolds Cole provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Virgin Valley. The connection was good for 74 yards, the longest such play in IA Southern - Sunrise this season.
Moapa Valley extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Chaparral, 57-12. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Pirates.
Miller and Xavier Steel gave Boulder City a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Miller threw for 85 yards and one touchdown, while Steel ran for 109 yards. DJ Koopman also contributed to the rushing game with 84 yards on the ground.
Trey Smith made the biggest impact on defense this week as Sunrise Mountain lost to Desert Pines. The 5-foot-9 junior forced one fumble.
A'keem Ross was the best wideout in the league this week as Sunrise Mountain fell to the Jaguars. Ross racked up seven receptions for 74 yards. Jordan Calloway helped Sunrise Mountain's passing attack out by catching one ball for eight yards.
6-foot-0 quarterback Garrett Leavitt of the Bulldogs is the league leader in passing yards this season with 449. He has also thrown seven touchdowns. On the ground, Moapa Valley's Conner Mortensen has rushed for 767 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Ross. The Sunrise Mountain star has 27 catches for 318 yards.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Brent Lewis's team and the Eagles. The Pirates enters the game ranked 15th in the state, while Boulder City ranks 17th.
There should be lots of points scored when Moapa Valley and the Eagles face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Pirates comes in having scored 292 this season, while Boulder City has scored 181. Moapa Valley scored 57 points last week as it bested the Cowboys.
