The Charlotte Trojans can finally bid farewell to their five-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They strolled past Natalia with points to spare, taking the game 55-37. The win was just what Charlotte needed coming off of a 57-21 defeat in their prior match.
Gabby Mata went supernova for Charlotte, dropping a double-double on 22 points and 20 rebounds. Mata is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now blocked two or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kadence Luna, who scored 10 points.
When it comes to explaining why Natalia lost, one person who can't be blamed is Anaya Jones. Despite the final result, she scored 24 points along with 8 rebounds and 4 steals. Jones scored a full 64.9% of Natalia's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Leyla Saenz was another key contributor, scoring 4 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals.
Even though they lost, Natalia were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Charlotte only pulled down 13.
Charlotte's win bumped their record up to 3-8. As for Natalia, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.
Charlotte's road trip will continue as they head out to face Dilley at 9:30 a.m. on December 1st. Dilley comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 19 points in their last six games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Natalia, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Pearsall at 4:10 p.m. on Friday.
