2A/1A Conference 6 recap October 29, 2013
Ashe County added to the longest winning streak in 2A/1A Conference 6 this week by beating North Wilkes, 34-20. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Elkin and Wilkes Central played the most contested game in the league this week, with Elkin eventually emerging with a 45-42 victory. Daniel Brinegar in the win.
Starmount's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Zach Freed threw for 19 and 1 touchdown and Gunner Cass had 19 yards receiving. On the ground Will Simpson chipped in 84 yards.
The Rams' dynamic duo of Freed and Cass proved to be unstoppable against East Wilkes, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Simpson provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Starmount bested the Cardinals.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Vikings' LJ Hendren and Josh Bare have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-0 quarterback Hendren has thrown for 1,730 yards this season, while Bare has 34 catches for 799 yards. Scott Johnson's team's Simpson leads the league in rushing yards with 704.
An important game coming up in 2A/1A Conference 6 this week will be when Ashe County takes on the Rams. Brian Hampton's team is currently in fourth, while Starmount is in second.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Huskies take on the Rams. Ashe County has allowed 169 points this season, while Starmount has given up 161. The Huskies allowed 20 points last week as they defeated North Wilkes.
The Rams took down East Wilkes 55-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Freed ran for 48 yards during the win.
