The Hobbs Eagles scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged Centennial out 77-74. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
It was another big night for Abraham Pe?a, who scored 32 points. Those 32 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Jairus Turrubiates, who scored seven points along with seven steals and six rebounds.
Several Hawks players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mikai Schuette, who scored 16 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Ben Walton, who went 6 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 22 points and 1 assists.
Hobbs pushed their record up to 3-2 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.3 points per game. As for Centennial, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hobbs will face off against Trinity Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Trinity Christian will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 86th in Texas, while Hobbs is ranked 35th in New Mexico). As for Centennial, they will head out on the road to face off against La Cueva at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully La Cueva focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Tuesday.
