The North Brunswick Scorpions were the 41-25 winner over the East Columbus Gators when they last played one another back in December of 2021, but their luck changed this time around. North Brunswick was dealt a 55-26 defeat at the hands of East Columbus on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, North Brunswick can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 241st, while East Columbus is ranked 19th).
Despite the defeat, North Brunswick had strong showings from Mariah Bell, who scored 5 points along with 8 rebounds and 5 steals, and Samaya Hankins, who scored 7 points.
East Columbus found their leader in underclassman Malia J. Graham, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 19 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which J. Graham has scored at least 25% of East Columbus' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Destiney Mitchell, who scored 15 points.
North Brunswick's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for East Columbus, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.
North Brunswick has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Heide Trask at 6:00 p.m. on November 30th. Heide Trask is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for East Columbus, they will head out on the road to face off against South Brunswick at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully South Brunswick focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Wednesday.
