It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Marian Catholic Spartans can now relate to. They were dealt a 35-0 defeat at the hands of St. Rita on Friday. While losing is never fun, Marian Catholic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 99th, while St. Rita is ranked 16th).
Carter Magerski threw for 63 yards while completing 76.5% of his passes. Kaleb Isom was his top target, picking up 47 receiving yards. On the ground, Kyle Scott rushed for 85 yards.
St. Rita's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Derrick Stewart led the charge by rushing for 55 yards and two touchdowns. Walter Jones also helped out with an impressive 117 receiving yards.
Marian Catholic now has a losing record at 5-6. As for St. Rita, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Marian Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now. St. Rita will be playing in front of their home fans against Marist at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Marist will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
