Edison is 8-2 against Jefferson since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Golden Bears will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mustangs at 12:00 p.m. Edison is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Edison got the win against Lanier by a conclusive 12-1. That's two games straight that the Golden Bears have won by exactly 11 runs.
Julius Ramirez and Ezequiel Sanchez did most of the damage at the plate: Ramirez went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple, while Sanchez went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Sanchez has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Sergio Villarreal, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Edison was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Jefferson unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They came up short against Brackenridge, falling 12-1.
Jefferson also got a good showing from Fernando Benitez-Ruiz, who struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off only one hit. Benitez-Ruiz has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Jefferson saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Stephen Salazar, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Edison has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-11-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Jefferson, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-10-1.
Saturday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Edison has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .453. However, it's not like Jefferson struggles in that department as they've averaged .499. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
