The Myers Park Mustangs will head out to face off against the Hough Huskies at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Myers Park is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Myers Park is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 14 runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Charlotte Catholic on Wednesday. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cougars.
Anna Eason spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits.
On the hitting side, Madeline Shuford made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, Hough entered their tilt with North Mecklenburg on Thursday with six consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with seven. They put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 19-2 win. The Huskies might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by 11 runs or more this season.
Aubrey Martin made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Hough got a massive performance out of Olivia Bechtel, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Bechtel is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Amie Reinhart was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Hough hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in ten consecutive games.
Hough's victory was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. As for Myers Park, their loss dropped their record down to 8-6.
Everything went Myers Park's way against Hough when the teams last played back in April of 2023, as Myers Park made off with a 7-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
