Pocola hasn't had much luck against Hartshorne recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Indians will head out on the road to take on the Miners at 4:30 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While Pocola's victory against Warner wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Indians won by a run and slipped past the Eagles 7-6. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Indians.
Dabion Gaines made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Gaines was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with two runs and one stolen base. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Sean Smith and Austin Cagle did most of the damage at the plate: Smith went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Cagle got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Smith a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brady Jones, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one double.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, Hartshorne made sure to put some runs up on the board against Warner on Monday. The Miners were the clear victors by an 11-3 margin over the Eagles. The result was nothing new for the Miners, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Pocola, Hartshorne also got a great game from a two-way player: Malachi Sunagoowie. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Sunagoowie was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two RBI.
In other batting news, Brodie Eddy was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Spencer Cox was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Hartshorne always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Warner only posted an OBP of .333.
Pocola's record now sits at 12-10. As for Hartshorne, their record is now 10-7.
Pocola suffered a grim 8-0 defeat to Hartshorne in their previous meeting back in April of 2019. Can the Indians avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
