Even though the Hubbard Eagles have not done well against the Lakeview Bulldogs recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Hubbard narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Lakeview 63-60. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Hubbard has posted yet this season.
Leading Hubbard to victory were Gavin Rybicki and Braydon Songer. Rybicki scored 16 points along with six rebounds, while Songer scored 19 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Songer is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenyen Franklin, who scored 11 points.
Lakeview lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Carter Doran, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. Doran is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last eight games he's played. Kyle Senkowitz was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with five assists and two steals.
The victory makes it two in a row for Hubbard and bumps their season record up to 7-5. As for Lakeview, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hubbard will take on Poland Seminary at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Poland Seminary presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Hubbard in Ohio (Poland Seminary is ranked 200th, while Hubbard is ranked 461st). As for Lakeview, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against McKinley at 7:00 p.m. McKinley is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
