St. Mary is a perfect 4-0 against Our Lady of Mount Carmel since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. St. Mary's will venture away from home to challenge Our Lady of Mount Carmel at 4:00 p.m.
On Monday, St. Mary's came up short against McDonogh and fell 10-5.
Our Lady of Mount Carmel never got on the board in their matchup last Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Chesapeake last Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over the Bay Hawks. Considering the Cougars have won four matches by more than ten runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Andy Molina-Sosa was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He is becoming a predictor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Molina-Sosa was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. He also put up a triple, which was his first of the season.
In other pitching news, Ethyn Street looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Keith Smith was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Lance Gregory was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.
Our Lady of Mount Carmel was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Our Lady of Mount Carmel is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. St. Mary's now has a losing record of 2-3.
St. Mary's took their victory against Our Lady of Mount Carmel in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 21-3. Will St. Mary's repeat their success, or does Our Lady of Mount Carmel has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
