Baseball Recap: Frontier's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Frontier came out on top against St. Marys on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run seventh inning. The Cougars walked away with a 7-3 win over the Blue Devils. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Cougars also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2022.

Zeke Rinard made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other pitching news, Frontier got a great performance from Aidan Wolfe as he didn't allow a single earned run over 5.1 innings pitched. Wolfe also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Cougars are 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-3 otherwise.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Zerik Rinard, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. He has become a key player for Frontier: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 0-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Austin Kephart, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Frontier moved to 3-4 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for St. Marys, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-16-1 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Frontier will take on Beallsville at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars are facing the Blue Devils at the right time seeing as the Blue Devils are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for St. Marys, they will challenge Webster County at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
