Frederick extended their winning streak to six on Friday, bumping them up to 6-2. They walked away with a 36-28 victory over the Poudre Impalas. The win almost wasn't to be: the Golden Eagles were down 28-14 in the second quarter.
Sonny Delpizzo continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 172 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 7.8 yards per carry, and also picking up 89 receiving yards. Another player making a difference was Preston Kissinger, who threw for 206 yards while completing 71.4% of his passes.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Frederick was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 215 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 159 rushing yards in six consecutive games.
Frederick didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Cyle Rarden, Jovan Martinez, and Reno Digesualdo picked up one apiece. Rarden is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last three games he's played. Marllow McCoy was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making 12 total tackles (3.0 for loss).
As for Poudre, they dropped their record down to 1-7 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. They were up 28-14 in the second quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.
Despite the loss, Poudre still got an impressive performance from Mason Carter, who rushed for 126 yards and four TDs. Carter also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, forcing one fumble and making seven total tackles.
