The Riverside Pirates will head out on the road to challenge the Northeastern Jets at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Riverside and 12 for Northeastern.
On Thursday, things could have been worse for Riverside, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 35-21 loss to Milton-Union. While losing is never fun, Riverside can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 551st, while Milton-Union is ranked 230th).
Meanwhile, Northeastern struggled with assists on Saturday (Fairbanks had 12 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Northeastern was outmatched by Fairbanks at home and fell 51-8. Northeastern was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-5.
Jaelynn Bobst was Northeastern's leading scorer, having posted four points.
Alison Shaner held things down on the boards with seven rebounds.
Riverside's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-14. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.8 points per game. As for Northeastern, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-20.
Riverside couldn't quite finish off Northeastern when the teams last played back in November of 2022 and fell 55-52. Can Riverside avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
