Basketball Recap: Rio Rico Drops Season-High Score on Cholla

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rio Rico). They simply couldn't be stopped on Wednesday as they easily beat the Cholla Chargers 81-15. Given the Hawks' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 100th, while the Chargers are ranked 266th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Rio Rico to victory were Amber Nerey and Addison Hix. Nerey almost dropped a double-double on 24 points and nine steals, while Hix dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Hix a new career-high in steals (five). Another player making a difference was Angelina Whelan, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 boards.

Rio Rico smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 28 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in five consecutive matchups.

Rio Rico's victory bumped their record up to 10-6. As for Cholla, they are on a 22-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-13.

Rio Rico has already played their next game, a 47-43 defeat against Amphitheater on the 17th. Cholla has also already played their next contest (against Sahuarita), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
