After flying high against the Berthoud Spartans on Thursday, the Colorado Academy Mustangs came back down to earth. Colorado Academy took a serious blow against Legend on Friday, falling 74-41. While losing is never fun, Colorado Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while Legend is ranked second).
Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Anna Johnson, who scored 16 points. Johnson scored a full 39% of Colorado Academy's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Winnie Fenton, who scored 12 points.
Legend's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mason Borcherding led the charge by scoring 19 points along with eight rebounds. Those 19 points set a new season-high mark for Borcherding. Ava Gavi was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with four steals.
Colorado Academy now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Legend, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.
Colorado Academy and Highland will face off at 12:30 p.m. on December 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Highland focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 31 on Friday. Legend and Frederick will face off at 2:15 p.m. on December 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Frederick's defense has only allowed 29.5 points per game this season, so Legend's offense will have their work cut out for Legend.
