The Chico Panthers had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 24-21 victory over Foothill. For Chico, this counts as revenge for the 43-6 defeat Foothill walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2022.
Dion Coleman continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 273 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.9 yards per carry. Coleman is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last eight games he's played.
When it comes to explaining why Foothill lost, one person who can't be blamed is Christopher Hall. Despite the final result, he picked up 86 receiving yards and a touchdown. Hall was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 63 yards.
Chico's victory was their sixth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 7-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 28.8 points per game. As for Foothill, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chico will take on Shasta at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Shasta will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 297th, while Chico is ranked 139th). As for Foothill, they will be playing at home against Enterprise at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Enterprise is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
