The Timnath Cubs entered their tilt with the Brush Beetdiggers with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Timnath enjoyed a cozy 55-40 win over Brush on Wednesday. Given Timnath's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 101st, while Brush is ranked 229th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Timnath found their leader in underclassman Gretchen Deines, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Deines continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Izzy Schimmelpfennig, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Several Beetdiggers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brisa Aguirre-Garcia, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Jocelynn Middlemist, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Timnath pushed their record up to 12-3 with that victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.8 points per game. As for Brush, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season.
Timnath on the road again on Saturday and play against Highland at 1:00 p.m. on January 27th. Highland will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. As for Brush, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Strasburg at 4:00 p.m. on January 25th. Strasburg is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 50.5 points per game.
