Emery/Weiner (Houston, Texas) grabbed a lead in the first quarter and rode that momentum to a 54-14 win over Mount Carmel Academy (Houston, Texas).
Emery/Weiner put up 16 points in the opening frame. EW scored on a touchdown run and an
Alex Niefield touchdown pass to
Cameron Rubenstein.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run in the first quarter, Emery/Weiner was up 38-14 at the half.
EW grew its lead to 33 points entering the fourth quarter. Emery/Weiner scored two times in the third, including once on a safety.
EW also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 55-7.
The defeat comes as a step back for Mount Carmel Academy, who notched a 34-12 victory over O'Connell in its previous outing.
Emery/Weiner (2-1) will play a non-conference game against Bracken Christian next week, while Mount Carmel Academy (1-2) will take on Community Christian also in a non-conference game.
