The Marana Tigers's game last Thursday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They snuck past Rincon/University with a 52-46 victory. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to post nine more assists than your opponent, as Marana did.
Leading Marana to victory were Malaysia Roebuck and Adrian Griffin. Roebuck dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Griffin scored 17 points along with six rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Roebuck has scored all season. Kameran Coto was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five rebounds.
Despite the loss, Rincon/University saw an underclassman step up: Leila O'Dowd scored 30 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. That was a full 65.2% of Rincon/University's points, marking the 11th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Sabrina Wexler, who scored 11 points.
Marana's victory bumped their record up to 6-15. As for Rincon/University, they now have a losing record at 11-12.
Marana won't have much time to rest: their next game is against American Leadership Academy - Gilbert North at 7:00 p.m. on January 24th. American Leadership Academy - Gilbert North is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak. As for Rincon/University, they will head out on the road to face off against Sunnyside at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sunnyside will be looking to keep their eight-game home win streak alive.
