The Worthington Kilbourne Wolves will take on the Westerville North Warriors at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Worthington Kilbourne took a 12-run loss the last time they faced off against Westerville South, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Wolves sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over the Wildcats on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wolves have posted since March 26, 2024.
Dante Pallante spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ben Davis, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one triple and one run. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in March. Grant Todd was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Westerville North came out on top against Dublin Scioto on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run third inning. The Warriors blew past the Irish 8-1. Considering the Warriors have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Westerville North also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and he was also dialed-in: Trent Geiger gave up only one earned run on seven hits and racked up six Ks. Geiger has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Ethan Robinson was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Thomas Mercurio, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one stolen base.
The win made it two in a row for Worthington Kilbourne and bumps their season record up to 11-6. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Westerville North, their win bumped their record up to 10-7.
Worthington Kilbourne beat Westerville North 5-2 in their previous matchup on Thursday. Will the Wolves repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
