The Byron Bears will challenge the Austin Packers at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Byron will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
While Byron's win against Cannon Falls wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Bears sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over the Bombers on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bears have posted since June 4, 2025.
Kaydence Fjerstad was incredible, firing off two home runs, three RBI, and one double while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Tallie Behrens was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Byron lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Austin fell victim to Mankato West and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 10-0 to the Scarlets. The Packers haven't had much luck with the Scarlets recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Kaydence Schaefer spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and eight unearned) runs on six hits and racked up ten Ks. The game marked her first with multiple earned runs this season.
At the plate, Austin saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Avery Anderson, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Austin's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Byron, their victory bumped their record up to 10-2.
Byron couldn't quite get it done against Austin in their previous matchup back in April of 2025 as they fell 7-4. Can the Bears avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
