4A Foothills recap Oct. 16, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Widefield, who took down 112th ranked Pueblo Centennial, 36-35. Mario Sanabria threw for 155 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 110 yards in the win.
The Gladiators moved up to 113 from 150 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 4A Foothills. Widefield was able to make the jump by defeating the Bulldogs 36-35.
Tremell Stanley was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 174 yards on 33 carries as Mesa Ridge topped Pueblo Centennial. Elijah Gilbert also contributed to the rushing game with 42 yards on the ground.
Sanabria was the best wideout in the league this week as the Gladiators beat Mike Palumbo's team. Sanabria tallied four receptions for 73 yards. Anthony Saunders helped Widefield's passing attack out by catching five balls for 60 yards.
Widefield's Sanabria and Saunders have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 4A Foothills in both passing and receiving yards. Sanabria has thrown for 1173 yards this season, while Saunders, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 24 catches for 351 yards. Derek Jackson from Pueblo West leads the league in rushing with 1471 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Cyclones take on the Bulldogs. As it stands, Pueblo West is in first, while Pueblo Centennial is in fifth.
Monte Pinkerton's team extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Palmer Ridge, 29-10. The victory was the seventh in a row for the Cyclones.
