The Greenville Comets stacked a sixth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 51-14 win over Southwestern on the road. Given Greenville's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 136th, while Southwestern is ranked 512th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Greenville found their leader in underclassman Emma Veith, who scored 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Potthast, who scored 11 points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Southwestern struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Greenville racked up 12 assists.
Greenville is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. As for Southwestern, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-12.
Greenville on the road again on Monday and play against Wesclin at 1:00 p.m. on January 15th. Wesclin is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games. As for Southwestern, they will be playing at home against Roxana at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
