A District 6 recap October 8, 2013
Talihina extended the longest winning streak in A District 6 this week by beating McAlester, 42-12. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Golden Tigers.
Gore's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jake Tincher threw for 171 and 3 touchdowns and Peyton O'Neal had 145 yards receiving. On the ground Tanner Clay contributed 51 yards. Wade Shanks helped Gore's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 11 yards.
He went 11-25 with 1 interception.
Clay was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 51 yards on 15 carries as the Pirates defeated Canadian. Shanks also contributed to the rushing game with 41 yards on the ground.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when Talihina and Central face off next week. Alan Lockhart has thrown for 506 yards and 5 touchdowns this season, while Michael Callahan has terrorized opposing QBs to the tune of 5.0 sacks.
A big matchup in A District 6 this week will be when Kelly Gravitt's team takes on the Tigers. At the moment, the Golden Tigers are in first, while Central is in third.
The league will see a high scoring game when Talihina and Jeremy Thompson's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Golden Tigers comes in having scored 200 this season, while the Tigers have scored 104. Talihina scored 42 points last week as it defeated the Buffaloes.
The Golden Tigers made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,106 from 8,164. The improvement was largely due to a 42-12 victory over McAlester last week.
