While the Martin Luther King Cougars couldn't quite beat the MAST Charter II Voyagers on Friday, the three-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 47-point loss they were dealt last Thursday. Martin Luther King fell just short of MAST Charter II by a score of 41-38. Martin Luther King has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Benito Scott, who scored 15 points along with six steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Scott has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Makhai Robinson, who scored five points along with ten rebounds.
Even though they lost, Martin Luther King smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
It was another big night for Cedric Williams, who scored 20 points along with five rebounds and two steals for MAST Charter II. Williams has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last eight times he's played. Lou Henderson was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Martin Luther King's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for MAST Charter II, their win bumped their record up to 6-7.
Martin Luther King's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Benjamin Franklin at 3:15 p.m. on January 18th. As for MAST Charter II, MAST Charter II and Paul Robeson will face off at 2:00 p.m. on January 15th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Paul Robeson is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
