South Panola's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Saturday's struggle, when Water Valley hitters got past them. South Panola took an 11-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of Water Valley on Saturday. The Tigers' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Holden Daleke and Jarett Toliver stepped up to the plate in a big way. Daleke scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Toliver scored two runs while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Toliver a new career-high in doubles (two).
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Oxford). They were the clear victor by an 18-1 margin over Southaven on Friday. The victory continues a trend for Oxford in their matchups with Southaven: they've now won nine in a row.
Ford Wade and Hayes Huggins made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Wade pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Huggins pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in May of 2024. At the plate, Wade went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Huggins went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double. That double marked the first that Huggins hit this season.
In other batting news, James Blackwood and Brady Maloney did most of the damage at the plate: Blackwood scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2, while Maloney scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Maloney is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Hogan Overby, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-2.
Oxford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .629. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
South Panola's defeat dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Oxford, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
