The Wahoo Warriors will head out on the road to challenge the Waverly Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Wahoo focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 last Saturday.
Wahoo scored the most points they've had all season to find success. They greeted the New Year with with a 59-43 victory over Lincoln Lutheran. Given Wahoo's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 59th, while Lincoln Lutheran is ranked 207th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wahoo's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Sidney Smart, who scored 14 points along with six assists and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Lausterer, who scored 14 points along with six assists.
Meanwhile, Waverly strolled past Bennington with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 54-35. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Waverly.
Waverly got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Peyton Tritz out in front who scored 15 points. Another player making a difference was Annie Harms, who scored 12 points.
Wahoo is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. Waverly's record is now 8-3.
Wahoo and Waverly were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in January of 2023, but Wahoo came up empty-handed after a 35-34 loss. Can Wahoo avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
