The Monroe Central Seminoles will challenge the Toronto Red Knights at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Monroe Central barely beat Beallsville the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Seminoles' pitcher stepped up to hand the Blue Devils a 14-0 shutout last Thursday. That 14 run margin sets a new team best for the Seminoles this season.
Allie McFredrick was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Karsyn Muncy, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Monroe Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Toronto made easy work of Wellsville on Friday and carried off a 17-11 victory. The Red Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.
Anna Wright was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Sapp, who went 1-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double.
Monroe Central's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-10. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Toronto, their win bumped their record up to 9-11.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Monroe Central has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Toronto struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Monroe Central was able to grind out a solid victory over Toronto in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 5-1. Will the Seminoles repeat their success, or do the Red Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
