Basketball Recap: Make It Six in a Row for Bayside

Bayside had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.4 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. They took down the Merritt Island Mustangs 72-55. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 56-55 back in November of 2024.

Leading Bayside to victory were Omar Clarke and Elijah Gillis. Clarke went 11 of 17 on his way to 24 points, while Gillis went 9 for 10 en route to 24 points. The match was Clarke's third in a row with at least ten points. Kody Grodecky was another key player, putting up seven points.

Bayside smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in seven consecutive games.

Bayside is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points per game. As for Merritt Island, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-12.

The future could be bright for both Bayside and Merritt Island: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Bayside will look to extend Heritage's four-game losing streak when the meet at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Similarly, Merritt Island will try to hand Satellite their third-straight loss when the two meet at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
