The Northfield Norsemen will head out on the road to square off against the Whitko Wildcats at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Northfield is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.
Northfield posted their biggest win since December 5, 2023 on Thursday. Everything went their way against Madison-Grant as Northfield made off with a 60-36 victory.
Hannah Holmes was her usual excellent self, scoring 18 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Elli Baker, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Whitko entered their tilt with Fort Wayne Wayne with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Whitko took down Fort Wayne Wayne 69-54 on Tuesday. Given Whitko's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while Fort Wayne Wayne is ranked 204th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Whitko's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Reese Stonebraker, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Stonebraker is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Jayma Stonebraker was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with four steals.
Northfield's record is now 8-11. Whitko's record is now 13-3.
Saturday's game is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Northfield have been dynamite from deep this season, having only made 30.8% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Whitko struggles in that department as they've drained 37.6% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Northfield came up short against Whitko in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, falling 63-56. Can Northfield avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
