Ferndale is 8-1 against Meyersdale since February of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Ferndale Yellow Jackets will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Meyersdale Red Raiders at 7:15 p.m. Hopefully Ferndale focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 on Thursday.
Ferndale scored the most points they've had all season to find success. They snuck past Turkeyfoot Valley Area with a 64-59 victory. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Ferndale's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Alex Lushko, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds, and Chance Washington, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Washington pulled down eight or more rebounds. Connor Hrivnak was another key contributor, scoring two points along with ten rebounds and five assists.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Meyersdale, who are still winless after their ninth matchup. They were dealt a 73-35 defeat at the hands of Bishop Carroll on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, Meyersdale can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 687th, while Bishop Carroll is ranked 200th).
Ferndale's win bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Meyersdale, they bumped their record down to 0-9 with that loss, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.
Ferndale came up short against Meyersdale in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, falling 60-55. Can Ferndale avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
